The Mac is one of the most dominant and flexible machines available today. 1. ScreenShot
Screenshots on the Mac are pretty awesome, and there are three ways to take a screenshot with your Mac:
- Command + Shift + 4 and you’ll get a crosshair that you can drag with your mouse to capture exactly what you want.
- Command + Shift + 4 at the same time and then let them go, then hit the Spacebar. Now you can click on any window you want and take a shot of that entire window, shadow included.
- Command + Shift + 3 to take a shot of your entire desktop. You’ll get a file for each display connected.
2. Hide the Dock
If you want to hide the dock instantly, then hit the Command + Option + D on your keyboard and the dock will hide. Repeat the process in order to reverse the action. You can instantly hide and show dock using these keyboard shortcut keys.
3. Use SpotLight
You can use your spotlight as your quick calculator. If you need to do some quick math, just launch spotlight by hitting Command + Spacebar and type your problem which you want to solve. When you want to close it, just hit esc key and you are back to the desktop or what you were doing.
4. Emoji KeyBoard
If you are an emoji lover and want to use quick emoji keyboard while you are writing something, here is a trick to do it. Just hit Command + Control + Spacebar and a quick emoji keyboard will appear on the screen. This might not work in every text field but it will surely work when texting and emailing. If you use an emoji and it doesn't support it then you will see a triangle in place of emoji.
5. Instant Delete Files
If you want to delete a specific file or multiple files without opening a menu bar, here is a simple trick to do so. All you need to do is to select a file or multiple files, then hit the Command + Delete and the file(s) will be moved to the trash folder. If you want to empty your trash folder, then simply hit the Command + Shift + Delete and it will ask permission to empty the trash folder. Just permit it and the trash folder will be empty.
6. Quick Apple Icon
If you want to use apple icon in text or email, here is a simple trick to do it. Just hit the Option + Shift + K and you will see an apple icon in the text. You can use this icon in text, emails, word documents and literally anything that allows for keyboard input.
7. Dictionary in a Snap
If you are reading the news or some article or anything and you come across a word that is unfamiliar to you, then you can use dictionary in a snap. You can find the meaning of that word in the spotlight but you can find it even more quickly by just tapping on your touchpad. What you need to do is to just hover over the word and touch the touchpad with three-finger and a pop-up dictionary window will appear on the screen. It will show definition as well as a thesaurus entry for that word. Amazing feature for readers and writers.
8. Disable Notifications
The Notification Center in OS X is the home for all the apps and websites on your Mac that need to tell you what’s going on, but if you want to disable notifications for your Mac you can click on the Notification Center icon in the OS X Menu Bar and turn on “Do Not Disturb” (DND) in the Today tab. Even quicker, you just hold down the Option button on your keyboard and click the Notification Center icon in the Menu Bar and it will shade itself out. This means DND is turned on.
9. Cycle Through Running Apps
If you want to switch to other running app or just want to see the running apps, here is a simple trick to do so. Simply hit the Command + Tab and you will see a list of running apps. You can switch to any other app by simply moving your arrows keys.
10. Dictation on Your Mac
Do you think is it possible to dictate your MacBook and make writing pretty easy? The answer is YES. Believe it or not, your MacBook actually take dictation and make writing much easier. This feature works fairly well, but if you have extra space on your SSD or Hard Drive, you can do a quick update and make dictation nearly seamlessly.
What you need to do is to open up the System Preferences and click on Dictation & Speech.
From here, click the radio button next to Dictation so On is selected, and make sure Use Enhanced Dictation is checked. This will allow you to dictate when not connected to the Internet and make it much faster. To activate dictation, press the Fn (Function) key on your keyboard twice quickly.
